How It Works
This document defines how the WRCCA World Ranking by PROCRAWLER is calculated. It is modelled on the ITF tennis rankings (the Juniors grade ladder and the Masters Tour), adapted to RC rock crawling. These are the rules the ranking software applies, word for word.
1. Name, organiser and data source
- The ranking's official name is WRCCA World Ranking by PROCRAWLER. PROCRAWLER is the name sponsor. Short form after first mention: WRCCA World Ranking.
- The ranking is published at wrccaworldranking.org.
-
The ranking is run by IRCCF (International RC Rock Crawler Federation), which sets these rules, operates the ranking software and keeps the driver profiles. The name sponsor has no role in calculating the ranking.
-
The ranking orders RC crawler competition drivers worldwide, per class, by points earned at competitions.
- All results are taken from crawlerresults.com. IRCCF has no other data feed; the site is read automatically and continuously.
- Only results published there can count. A missing or incorrect result is corrected on crawlerresults.com by the organiser, and the ranking picks up the correction.
2. Ranked classes
- Separate rankings are kept for: Super, Pro, Mini, Sportsman, Performance Scale.
- Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 (scale and micro classes) are stored but not ranked.
- A driver can be ranked in several classes. Results never transfer between classes.
3. Ranking unit: the class result of a round
- Every round (one competition day or weekend at one venue) is scored on its own, separately for each class.
- A round that is part of a series is scored exactly like a one-off event. A 10-round series gives 10 separate results.
- The organiser's overall series standings are not used, and there is no cap on how many rounds of the same series can count. The grade of each round decides how much it is worth.
4. Event grades
| Grade | Winner's points | How the grade is set |
|---|---|---|
| W2000 | 2000 | Automatic: WRCCA Worlds (odd years) and ERCCA EuroCrawl (even years) |
| C1000 | 1000 | Automatic: Nordics and Sudics |
| N500 | 500 | Automatic from field strength: strongest 15% of national class results |
| N250 | 250 | Automatic from field strength: next 35% |
| N100 | 100 | Automatic from field strength: the remaining 50% |
Worlds and EuroCrawl carry the same grade so that every season has one 2000-point event.
4.1 Field strength (national events)
- Each class result of a national round is graded from its own field, after the results are in.
- Field strength = the average ranking points of the 8 best-ranked drivers in that class field. The points used are each driver's ranking points in that class in the last ranking published before the round (section 8).
- A field with fewer than 8 drivers counts the empty places as 0, so small fields are rated lower.
- A field where no driver holds any points has strength 0 and is graded N100.
- New events get no special treatment. Their first round is graded from its field like any other round. A first edition with a strong field earns a high grade at once, and one with only unranked drivers starts at N100.
- Strength limits are fixed for a whole season, so a grade can be set as soon as a round's results appear. The limits are calculated from the previous season's national class results: the 85th percentile of field strength is the N500 limit, and the 50th percentile is the N250 limit. The limits are recalculated once a year. Events are not given a season grade: every round is graded separately against the limits, so the same series can have N100, N250 and N500 rounds in one season.
- Once a class result is graded, its grade does not change, even if drivers' points change later.
- First season. When there is no previous season of national results, the season is first graded with every national round at N100. Its own 85th and 50th percentiles then become that season's limits, and the season is graded again with them.
- For reference, the 2026 limits (from the 2025 national results) are N500 from strength 811 and N250 from strength 336.
4.2 Eligibility of a round (admin decision)
The IRCCF admin decides whether a round counts at all. The admin does not set the grade.
- Eligible: competitions run under WRCCA rules.
- Not eligible: training days, test events, fun runs, demonstrations, and events run under other rule sets.
- A round is ignored until the admin marks it eligible.
- The admin can decide for a whole series at once. All its rounds without an individual decision follow it, and so do new rounds of that series as they appear. A decision on a single round always overrides the series decision.
5. Points by finishing place
Points are a share of the grade's winner points. The share depends only on the finishing place, so the same place is worth the same proportion at every grade.
| Place | Share | W2000 | C1000 | N500 | N250 | N100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100% | 2000 | 1000 | 500 | 250 | 100 |
| 2 | 70% | 1400 | 700 | 350 | 175 | 70 |
| 3 | 55% | 1100 | 550 | 275 | 138 | 55 |
| 4 | 45% | 900 | 450 | 225 | 112 | 45 |
| 5 | 38% | 760 | 380 | 190 | 95 | 38 |
| 6 | 32% | 640 | 320 | 160 | 80 | 32 |
| 7–8 | 26% | 520 | 260 | 130 | 65 | 26 |
| 9–12 | 18% | 360 | 180 | 90 | 45 | 18 |
| 13–16 | 12% | 240 | 120 | 60 | 30 | 12 |
| 17–24 | 8% | 160 | 80 | 40 | 20 | 8 |
| 25–32 | 5% | 100 | 50 | 25 | 12 | 5 |
| 33–64 | 2% | 40 | 20 | 10 | 5 | 2 |
The finishing place is the rank published on crawlerresults.com, including the final where one is run. Some results tables have no rank column; then the order of the table is used, because the tables are sorted by total score. If such a table is not in score order or has missing totals, it awards no points until it is corrected, and the admin is alerted.
6. Conditions for earning points
- Minimum field: a class result needs at least 3 drivers in the results to award points.
- The driver must appear in the published results with a finishing place.
- Points are earned only from eligible rounds (4.2) in ranked classes (2).
7. Drivers
- Every result is linked to a driver profile kept by the IRCCF admin. A profile holds the real name, nationality, all name spellings found in results, and optionally Facebook and Instagram profiles.
- Names are matched automatically regardless of case, accents, punctuation and word order ("Babut Maxime" = "Maxime Babut", "Søiland" = "Soiland").
- Similar but different spellings are never merged automatically. They are flagged for the admin, because family members often compete in the same events.
- Nationality is the one on the driver profile, shown with the IOC country code used in international sport (GER, NED, SUI, HUN…). What organisers type in result tables is used only as a suggestion; once the admin verifies a profile, the profile wins.
8. Ranking period, counting and publication
- Rolling 52 weeks. A driver's ranking in a class is built from results in the 52 weeks before the ranking date. Each result drops out the week it becomes 52 weeks old. There is no reset on 1 January.
- W2000 exception. A Worlds or EuroCrawl result stays in the ranking until the next W2000 event has been held, even if that is more than 52 weeks later. The new W2000 result then replaces it. This keeps one 2000-point event in every driver's ranking period despite the two events alternating years.
- Best 6 results count. A driver's ranking points in a class are the sum of their 6 highest-scoring results in the period. Further results are shown but do not count. There is no limit on how many of those 6 come from the same series.
- Weekly publication. The ranking is recalculated and published every Monday, covering results published on crawlerresults.com up to the previous Sunday. Each published ranking shows every driver's movement up or down against the previous week.
9. Ties
When drivers in the same class have equal ranking points, their order is decided by these steps in turn:
- More points from W2000 results within the 6 counted results.
- Then more points from C1000 results, then N500, then N250, then N100.
- Then more wins (1st places) within the counted results.
Drivers still equal after step 3 share the same ranking position.
10. Year-end ranking and World Ranking titles
- The ranking published on the last Monday of the calendar year is the year-end ranking. The leader of each class is that year's WRCCA World Ranking by PROCRAWLER No. 1.
- The top 3 places of the year-end ranking go only to drivers with at least one result at an international event (W2000 or C1000) during that calendar year. If a driver without one would finish in the top 3, the next driver with an international result moves up, and the driver without one follows directly behind the top 3.
- All other drivers keep their place in the order of the ranking. No driver is left out of the year-end ranking.
11. Change control
- These rules are set by IRCCF. Changes apply from the next season, unless they correct an error.
- Every change gets a new version number and date at the top of this document.
- v1.4: the international-result requirement of the year-end ranking applies to the top 3 places only (§10).
- v1.3: public address wrccaworldranking.org (§1), whole-series eligibility decisions (§4.2), finishing place from table order when a page has no rank column (§5).
- v1.2: ranking named "WRCCA World Ranking by PROCRAWLER", with PROCRAWLER as name sponsor and IRCCF as organiser (§1).
- v1.1: added the first-season rule for grade limits (§4.1) and replaced the reference limits with the values the engine computed.
